Abstract | Examines students' initial interest in scientific careers, factors influencing career choice during college, and how these factors differ between men and women. Men who abandon scientific career aspirations appear to be driven by financial concerns whereas women who decide not to pursue scientific careers appear more concerned with the social good of their career choice.
