Abstract | This study examines differences in domains of quality of life (satisfaction; choice and control; dignity, respect, and rights; inclusion; physical setting; family satisfaction) among people with intellectual disability and varying levels of support needs in a variety of residence types. The sample includes 2,639 people with intellectual disability living in Pennsylvania and supported by the state's intellectual disability/autism agency. Overall, results indicate enhanced quality of life outcomes for people living in lifesharing, their own home, and with a relative, in contrast to those living in group homes or private intermediate care facilities. Furthermore, results suggest the critical need for equitable opportunities for community-based inclusive residential options for people with all levels of support needs. This study highlights the importance of authentic community living and the need to continue efforts to promote community living options for people with intellectual disability to experience full social, educational, and emotional inclusion.
