AbstractFor more than 125 years, National Geographic has explored the planet, unlocking its secrets and sharing them with the world. For almost thirty of those years, National Geographic has been committed to K-12 educators and geographic education through its Network of Alliances. As National Geographic begins a new chapter, they remain committed to the belief that science, exploration, education, and storytelling can change the world. In 2015, an exciting year for National Geographic, changes were made that allow them to build upon their legacy and further commit to those long-held beliefs. Throughout their history, the National Geographic Society has pursued a mission of increasing and diffusing geographic knowledge. As part of that mission, they are committed to making sure students have the education they need to be successful in the workplace, to become good stewards of the planet and their communities, and to become thoughtful decision makers in their civic lives. In support of these educational goals, National Geographic has outlined the critical attitudes, skills, and knowledge that embody the mindset of an explorer and will guide our educational work moving forward.
