AbstractThis study looked into contraceptives knowledge and sexual behaviour among federal university students in Ibadan. The main objective of this study was to find out the level of knowledge of contraceptive and the relationship between level of knowledge of contraceptive and safe sexual behaviour of federal university students in Ibadan. It is important to note that adequate knowledge of contraceptives is very critical to enhance safe sexual behaviour. Yet it has been observed that many university students have incomplete knowledge about contraceptive--its usage, side effect, benefits and types which are due to the fact that it is not culturally and religiously supported and also parents do not see it as morally good to give their children education on contraceptive. However, inadequate knowledge predisposes adolescents to unprotected sex and its consequences such as unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. A sample size of two hundred and fifty students was systematically selected from the population of University of Ibadan, as two hundred and fifty questionnaires were distributed, but two hundred and nine was recovered. The data obtained was analysed using frequency distribution, cross tabulation and logistic regression. The result obtained from this research shows that contraceptive knowledge is high as well as the knowledge about safe sexual behaviour. Secondly, it was obtained from the research analysis that level of contraceptive knowledge is positive--affectively related to safe sexual behaviour among federal university students in Ibadan. Moreover, the research recommended that federal university students should be given guided and adequate knowledge of contraceptives as it will influence them to practice safe sexual behaviour.
