Abstract | This quantitative correlational predictive study aimed to determine the extent Herzberg's motivator and hygiene factors predict intent to remain in academia among Master of Science in Nursing-degreed part-time nursing faculty in the United States. The theoretical framework for this study included Herzberg's theory of motivator and hygiene factors. The study was conducted with a convenience sample of 155 qualifying participants recruited through the nurses' association groups. The first research question asked to what extent motivator factors predict intent to remain. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis showed that intent to remain was significantly predicted by two motivator factors (Adjusted R[superscript 2] 0.297, F(4,149) = 17.15, p < 0.001): job satisfaction (standardized [beta] = 0.337, t = 4.492, p < 0.001) and recognition (standardized [beta] = 0.256, t = 3.012, p = 0.003). The second research question asked to what extent hygiene factors predict intent to remain. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis indicated that intent to remain was significantly predicted by two hygiene factors (Adjusted R[superscript 2] 0.315, F(5,141) = 14.43, p < 0.001): honorarium or compensation (standardized [beta] = 0.326, t = 4.673, p < 0.001) and faculty support (standardized [beta] = 0.251, t = 3.167, p = 0.002). The findings of this study are relevant to decision-makers interested in reducing turnover among Master of Science in Nursing-degreed part-time faculty in colleges and schools of nursing in the United States.
