Abstract | This book explains methods of representing information. Contents are divided into six chapters: (1) "Appetizers" includes activities that can be done individually to become familiar with the topics of signs, symbols, and codes; (2) "Concepts" provides a basis for symbol and sign development; (3) "Activities" features activities and classroom projects; (4) "Stories" presents teacher narratives on learning and signs and symbols; (5) "Resources" provides resources for the implementation of the activities; and (6) "About Standards" describes the standards addressed in math, science, technology, social studies, and English language arts.
