Abstract | Almost every teacher and parent encounters children with behavior problems. Social changes, including an increasingly violent and information-based society, affect ways in which children view and function in the world. Teachers and parents need to have greater understanding and skill in implementing discipline strategies. This guide presents practical advice and strategies for discipline and behavior management, aimed at both parents and teachers. The chapters are (1) "Child Personality Development," including self-esteem and backgrounds of difficult children; (2) "The Challenges of Attention," covering Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD); (3) "Disciplining Children"; (4) "Specific Behavior Management Strategies," including token reinforcement, time out, behavior management during outings, and diversion; (5) "Behavior Management with Adolescents: A Matter of Communication"; (6) "Positive Classroom," including "Management Plan--The Ross Method"; and (7) "Violence and Behavior." Contains 33 references. (BGC) |
