Abstract | This report from the Adamsville Elementary School in Atlanta (Georgia) provides information on student achievement for the 1986-87 school year. The narrative presents 24 findings concerning enrollment, attendance, reading achievement, and math achievement. Conclusions generated from these findings are the following: (1) both reading and math scores were above the norm for the school system; (2) in both subjects there was a significant improvement in scores; (3) the systemwide goal of having at least 50 percent of students score at or above the national norm was met for reading in grades 2-7, and for math in grades 1, 2, 4, and 7; (4) there was partial success in achieving the state averages for reading and math; (5) second-graders succeeded in meeting publishers' recommendations for progress in reading, but first-graders did not; and (6) only grades 1, 2, and 4 met the goals for progress in the math program. Commendations are suggested for the principal and faculty in light of these increases in student achievement. Careful adherence to the school plan is recommended in order to insure increased progress in math. Descriptive statistics and test scores are presented in 17 tables. (VM) |
