| Abstract | This paper presents recommendations for revision of the current general education requirements for an Illinois teaching certificate. These recommendations concern the following areas of the curriculum: (1) American history; (2) American government; (3) psychology; (4) biological science; (5) communications; (6) humanities; (7) literature; (8) mathematics; (9) non-western civilization; (10) physical science; and (11) social science. Recommendations are made on the explicit number of semester hours that should be devoted to selected subjects in this curriculum by elementary and early childhood education majors and secondary education majors. Pie charts illustrate the current curriculum requirements and the recommended changes. (JD) |
