AbstractIntended for use in a four-semester occupational child care program for 11th- or 12th-grade and adult students, this curriculum guide provides instructional materials covering basic information and skills for operating a child care center or a family day care home. It includes 4 sections and 23 instructional units. Each unit of instruction consists of eight basic components: performance objectives, teacher activities, information sheets (content essential for meeting the cognitive objectives), assignment sheets (applications of knowledges which are prerequisites to skill development), job sheets (procedures to complete a manipulative or psychomotor skill), transparency masters, tests, and test and assignment sheet answers. Section 1, Management of Center Operations, contains four units: Personnel and Center Policies, Record Keeping, Governmental Regulations, and Health, Safety, and Sanitation. The five units in section 2, Program Planning, are Types of Programs, Environmental Design, Unit Planning and Scheduling, Enrichment, and Parent/Teacher and Community Relations. Section 3, Children's Activities, includes 11 units: Value of Play, Fostering Creativity Through Play, Toys and Play Equipment, Art, Music, Children's Literature, Science, Math, Social Studies/Career Awareness, Games, and Transitional Activities.
