AbstractThe development, operation, and benefits of community college alumni organizations are examined by four speakers. After J.E. McCracken's introduction to the topic, Thomas Ten Hoeve describes the alumni association at Butler County College and examines the role of the association in helping the college maintain updated files on former students and in providing scholarships for students who have transferred to upper division colleges. Patricia S. Wager then considers the factors which led to the successful development of the alumni association at the College of DuPage, including the establishment of special interest groups to compensate for the fact that community college graduates do not often identify with their class year. Next, David Dahlen discusses the creation of community/junior college alumni chapters among transfer students at Florida State University. His talk includes a description of the role played by the chapters in helping transfer students adjust to senior institutions. Finally, James L. Tennant of Jackson Community College discusses various methods of fund raising, including contributions from alumni and business, and the creation of deferred-giving and estate planning programs.
