| Abstract | Designed for faculty and administration in higher education, the book describes concepts, methods, and case studies in the field of administrative assessment. The first section explores issues and perspectives in three chapters authored by Charles H. Farmer: "Why Evaluate Administrators?", "How Can Administrators be Evaluated?", and "Who Should Evaluate Administrators?" In the second section approaches to administrative evaluation are discussed in the following chapters: "Rating Scales for Evaluating Administrators" (Charles H. Farmer); "Growth Contracting for Administrator Evaluation and Development" (Neal R. Berte and Edward H. O'Neil); "The Ad Hoc Committee Model" (G. Lester Anderson); and "MBO and Administrator Evaluation" (Phillip C. Winstead). Administrator evaluation practices are covered in a third section containing: "University of Tulsa--Overrated Rating Scales" (Charles H. Farmer); "Austin College--Institution-Wide Career Development" (Dan T. Bedsole); "State University of New York--Presidential Evaluation" (Murray H. Block); and "Furman University--Institutional Planning, MBO, and Administrator Evaluation" (Phillip C. Winstead). The final section on planning a program of administrator evaluation has one chapter, "Administrator Evaluation--Building on the State of the Art" (Charles H. Farmer). Appended are descriptions of 28 administrator evaluation programs. An annotated bibliography is included, as are flow charts and a sample questionnaire rating scale. (PHR) |
