AbstractThis document examines the geographical mobility of population in the United States from 1975 to 1977. It is divided into three main parts. The first part briefly traces the interregional migration of blacks, the black return migration to their region of birth, the interregional migration of whites, and the metropolitan and nonmetropolitan migration of blacks and whites. The second part contains 43 detailed tables. The tables are divided into five subject areas: detailed mobility, general mobility, mobility for standard metropolitan statistical areas (SMSA's), mobility for central cities of SMSA's, and regional mobility. These five areas are further subdivided by social, economic, and general characteristics such as age, race, Spanish origin, years of school completed, marital status, household relationship, families, employment status, occupation, income, receipt of public assistance, and above or below poverty level. The third part, the appendix, includes related reports, allocations of mobility status, definitions, and the source and reliability of estimates. Also included are tables on the standard errors of estimated numbers and percentages, factors to be applied to generalized errors, and parameters for estimated numbers and percentages. Most of the estimates in this report are based on data collected by the Current Population Survey. (Author/JK)
