Abstract | The curriculum guide is the first part of a two-year program developed as part of revision of the total agricultural education curriculum in South Carolina. The project was designed to implement the following changes: (1) provide a more comprehensive vocational offering; (2) place a greater emphasis on behavioral objectives; (3) place a greater emphasis on learning activities; (4) encourage an inductive approach to teaching, and (5) result in the re-identification of the units of instruction. The general framework of the course focuses on problem solving, with units on orientation to agricultural production, farm management (farm investment, farm appraisal, machinery economics, credit, and recordkeeping), agricultural mechanics (machinery and equipment maintenance, engine trouble shooting and repair, engine principles, small gasoline engines, and hydraulics), plant science, soils, and cash crop production (tobacco, cotton, vegetable, fruit, grain, and soybeans, with subunits on exploring career opportunities). Each unit of instruction includes objectives, suggested learning activities, topic outlines, and suggested resources. The document concludes with an appendix of facilities and equipment needed for the course and list of books and other resource materials. (Author/BP) |
