Abstract | The principles and practices relating to the creation, organization and administration of a school media center are examined in detail. The stress is upon recent developments and practical considerations and emphasis is laid upon those features which distinguish the school media center from the conventional school library. Individual chapters deal with: 1) the historical development of the media center; 2) the nature of media programs; 3) the essential elements of a media program; 4) the assessment of media programs; 5) budget; 6) staffing; 7) facilities; 8) media selection; and 9) acquisition and organization. A series of appendixes treats selection policies and the criteria for selecting educational media and audiovisual equipment. (PB) |
