(DIPF/Orig.) Casting a spotlight on the history of adult education, the author attempts to pick up the common thread of adult education as a process of giving and taking and thus taking part and sharing. He focuses on the latest developments: a lot of individualism but little sense of community, a lot of enrichment but little common good, a lot of egocentrism but little common ground. In the conclusion, he raises the following question as a warning: If the participants are truly important to us, perhaps we should discuss, speak and debate with them and counsel them when the subject is: taking part – sharing?
