(Autor). The authors developed the project "PlaySpace" in order to show children the possibilities of unguided play in public spaces and to create uninstructed movement options. Based on preliminary theoretical considerations from a social-ecological perspective, the authors regarded the concept of informal learning in physical education to outline the university seminar project of "PlaySpace". In this project they focus on appropriation of space. Thereby pupils were accompanied by the students to investigate the options to actively use the public space around the elementary school. They follow the idea to provide the children with incentives to informally move and play, but also to let them co-determine spacial use in order to enable them to (re)aquire public spaces. In addition the authors present the results of an online-survey on use of public space in elementary school physical education answered by physical educators from Saxony; these answers influenced the conception of the seminar.
