Abstract | The purpose of this paper is to introduce Multimodal Landscaping (ML) as a conceptual framework, and to illustrate how this approach can be applied within the field of higher education research. It is argued that ML is a suitable tool, especially, in studies investigating university internationalization, and in studies focusing on the agent level of higher education organizations. ML is argued to add to the diversity of methods within a social constructivist methodology. The author illustrates how ML is connected and/or different from kindred approaches, such as linguistic landscaping, and multimodal discourse analysis. Several pathways are proposed as to how to theoretically imbed and extend the conceptual framework. Tangible methods and techniques are elaborated on in order to demonstrate how ML can be operationalized in a research project. (HoF/text adopted). |
