| Abstract | At the end of the 1980s some changes and reforms began to emerge in Latvia's education system. The issue of the privatization of education has provided to be a rather complicated socio-economic problem. There are many difficulties and obstacles in the current processes of stabilization and development of the private sector in education. The main problems include: lack of experience ...; a poor quality of education in some of the private institutions which claim to be prestigious; absence of sources of funding in the private sector etc. But the most important factor is that the process of privatisation has expanded educational opportunities for Latvian people in terms of diversification and choice, creating new schools and institutions of various types.
