AbstractThis research project, "Learner autonomy: The teacher's views", was initiated during Workshop Nr. 8/97 "Aspects of Teaching Methodology in Bilingual Classes at Secondary School Level" that took place in Graz in May 1997. ... At the end of the seminar participants were encouraged to establish networks and set up projects related to the topics dealt with during its proceedings, and the European Center for Modern Languages [ECML] offered to host follow-up meetings of successful projects. . .. This publication includes four articles written by the project members who attended the follow-up meeting. In these articles the members report on their individual research exercise and comment on their findings, drawing also some comparisons with the global results. The writers also give outlines of their local educational set-up in order to give the reader an idea of the context in which their teachers operate. Dr Antoinette Camilleri contributes a very relevant article on the teacher's role in learner autonomy, and in another article George Camilleri presents some reflections on the global findings of this project. The appendices contain tables showing the actual data gathered from each participating country, and this is also presented in the form of graphs. (DIPF/Orig.).
