| Abstract | After the end of parental leave (in Germany called Erziehungsurlaub) parents have to decide how to spend the time until their child receives a place in a Kindergarten. The gap between the two points can be caused by two factors: either parents do not take advantage of (the whole time of) Erziehungsurlaub or the child gets a place in Kindergarten at a later time, even though the parents used the whole period of time of Erziehungsurlaub. As is shown in a study which had been carried out in Bamberg in 1995 parents usually look after their small children on their own; i. e. the parents themselves or the child's grandparents take care of the children. In most cases when parents do not need external help in looking after their children - except from their parents(-in-law) -, there is a markedly low acceptance of other forms of support. And while there is no need for any other external support, parents are not forced to consider different forms of support in looking after their children. This is obviously in the low knowledge of the possibilities and the concepts behind the various terms. The results of the study can be regarded to be representative for Bavaria. (Orig./ISB). |
