Abstract | Whether competence-based film-education in L3-classroom can stand a chance, depends on various requirements. Differing conditions for film distribution and reception, expectations and routines regarding films, the significance of film education in the school curriculum, the prestige value of the L3 language and, last not least, the competitiveness of the available range of films form a complex framework. Its variability in reference to countries and languages seems to render sweeping statements impossible. The author explores the context for German as a second foreign language after English in Polish schools and argues that only relevance to everyday life and recourse to learners' latent multilingualism may grant realistic prospects to production-oriented film tasks in the L3-classroom. Three competence-based tasks exemplify her line of reasoning. (Verlag, adapt.). |
