Abstract | "A Drive for Excellence: The Centennial History of the University of Northwestern Ohio takes readers along on a tour of the school's entrepreneurial and innovative approach to higher education. From its beginning as a small private business school educating Lima-area residents, UNOH has focused on practical education, helping students develop the skills most in demand by business and industry. As technologies changed and evolved, so did the University's offerings. Author Mary Seelhorst shows how the school grew into an accredited private non-profit university that attracts students from across the country and around the world, some living on campus and some pursuing degrees online. Enlivened by first-person recollections and anecdotes, the beautifully illustrated book couches the school's history in the cultural and technological context of three eras corresponding with the tenures of the school's three presidents. Student testimonials attest to the impact UNOH has on the lives of its graduates. Northwestern has enriched the lives of its graduates for generations, expanding from its original business, secretarial, and accounting diplomas to offer associate and bachelor's degrees as well as a master's degree. Starting in the 1960s, Northwestern added new fields of study including medical technology and health care, computer programming and information technology, automotive technology and high-performance motorsports, agricultural equipment, alternate fuels, HVAC, and robotics, among others. The addition of sports programs, including the only university-owned racetrack and varsity motorsports teams in the country, raised the profile of this small midwestern school and enriched student life"--Provided by publisher. |
