Abstract | Because of the current overabundance of unemployed social studies teachers, the author recommends that (1) college counselors inform freshmen and sophomores realistically about job opportunities, (2) placement offices follow the career patterns of recent graduates, (3) former students be responsive to alumni surveys, and (4) teacher education institutions be selective in admitting and graduating prospective teachers.
