Abstract | Objective: The aim of this work was to confirm the validity of martial arts training in physical fitness. The paper deals with the influence of combative exercises on the development of pupils' physical abilities at the first grade of primary school aged 8 to 9. Methods: By creating and applying an experimental factor, a combative programme in physical education lessons, we have been trying to show a positive impact on pupils' overall performance during the four-month period. The experimental group consisted of pupils of the third grade (n = 23) of the primary school of Rajcianska 3, average age 9.04 (± 0.40 standard deviation), body height 137.35 (± 6.18 standard deviation) cm, body weight 34.60 (± 7.80 standard deviation) kg. The control group (n = 20) consisted of pupils of the third grade from the same school and of the same age group 9.01 (± 0.41standard deviation), body height 136.05 (± 6.19 standard deviation) cm, body weight 31.47(± 6.08 mg deviation) kg. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed in the following tests: bent arm hang test (p = 0.01). In the other monitored variables (sit and reach test, standing long jump test (from the place), full ball throw (throw of 1 kg medicine ball)), we did not see statistically significant changes. Conclusion: The experimental factor used in our research has led to some non-significant changes in the development of the endurance strength of the upper limbs and the articulation of the lower limbs.
