The Portal Provider Scientific Monitoring Leaflets Publications

The German Education Portal is your central access point to professional educational information in Germany. Its services mainly address professionals in educational research and practice, and those interested in educational science. By delivering this information service free of charge, the German Education Portal adheres to the principle of “Open Access”, i.e. the open availability of scientific resources. The service focuses on reference systems for searching literature, research data and comprehensive information collections relevant in the context of educational science and educational research.

The German Education Index (a reference system) is a central element which together with the document server pedocs, the research data centre for education (hosting empirical research data and instruments), and the subject directory that is maintained in collaboration with the German Education Server offers the interested user a comprehensive range of information that is accessible free of charge, addressing the entire field of education. The close linkage of services offers convenient, thematic search and navigation options pertinent to publications, collections of data and internet resources, including immediate download of sources that are openly accessible on the web. Subject to the specialized infrastructure service (Fachinformationsdienst), users can request delivery of titles that are not generally available, for their scientific work.

The German Education Portal addresses its services mainly to professionals in educational science and educational practice, as well as any other users with an intrest in educational science. The target group includes higher education staff from the domain of education as well as researchers from science and heritage/memory institutions and school teachers and people working in welfare institutions. The aspect of scientific relevance of pedagogical information offered is crucial for the services provided by the German Education Portal. If you are interested in more general aspects of education, please note that complementary to the German Education Portal, the German Education Server offers comprehensive services in the field.

The Education Portal is run by the Information Center for Education at the German Institute for International Educational Research (DIPF), Frankfurt am Main. The construction and development of the portal were supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft within the programme for setting up virtual research libraries (Virtuelle Fachbibliotheken). The portal has been online since August 2005. Right from the beginning, a focal point of its services has been the German Education Index, which has been regularly enhanced and improved by the Information Center for Education and its co-operation partners since 1994. The portal has furthermore been supported by collaborating publishing houses in the framework of pedocs, an Open-Access document server, and other research institutions are co-operating in the context of setting up and operating the science infrastructure service (Fachinformationsdienst).
