Abstract | Investigated inference processes in expository-film viewing. Three experiments with a total sample of 217 college students were conducted. Subjects viewed films or listened to audio-only presentations, followed by a comprehension or naming task. Results demonstrated that film viewers engaged in elaborative processing during expository film comprehension. Viewers were able to successfully integrate inferred causal information into their mental model of film content. Further, films were elaborated as well as audio-only programs: Pictorial information did not diminish comprehension. It is concluded that films do have educational potential, but additional research is recommended. (ZPID). |
